DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl - Exclusively for Subscribers
If you missed NFL legend quarterback Doug Flutie’s heroic head-into-wall dive to secure his team’s win during the 2008 DIRECTV Celebrity Beach Bowl, you can catch more great flag football action when the top names in Hollywood and the NFL go head-to-head for the 3rd annual match-up January 31 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
This wild event, presented by Spike TV and broadcast on The 101 Network, kicks off DIRECTV’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIII and showcases one of the exclusive extras subscribers can enjoy this weekend. And if history repeats itself, this year’s Beach Bowl promises to be every bit as fun, intense and exciting as last year’s sand-laden contest when celebs like Pam Anderson, David Spade and Blake Lively tested their gridiron gusto with sports stars Warren Moon, Desmond Howard and Matt Leinart
Last year, recording artist Josh Kelly opened the game with a live concert, and Fall Out Boy performed a post-game show in the sandy end zone before a crowd of 4,000 spectators. The game ended with Flutie’s NFL SUNDAY TICKET team toppling Warren Moon’s NASCAR HotPass team 20-19.
There’s no word yet on this year’s lineup, but rumors are swirling about a possible partnership between DIRECTV and Playboy, so you could see a few playmates in the mix. DIRECTV is also letting one lucky viewer take to the field. The winner of the NFL Sunday Ticket’s Ultimate Displaced Fan Contest will get a spot in the lineup, along with tickets for two to Sunday’s big game, a meeting with last year’s MVP, Giant’s quarterback Eli Manning, and a chance to meet a player from the Displaced Fan’s favorite team.
The game kicks off at 1:30 p.m. EST, with a pre-game show at 12:30 p.m. EST, and another post-game concert at 2:30 p.m. EST. Catch all the live action on DIRECTV’s The 101 Network. And if you aren’t yet a subscriber, sign up for one of the many great DIRECTV packages for sports enthusiasts today, so you can enjoy the big game and all the exclusive subscriber events.
